About NAV → BC Delta

Last updated 2026-10-02

NAV → BC Delta is an independent reference that answers one question: if you are on a given Dynamics NAV or Business Central version, what actually changes when you move to the current release? It is written and maintained by Monty Hughes, and it is not a Microsoft, LS Retail or Continia publication.

Who writes this?

Monty Hughes, an in-house ERP functional consultant based in London. I am the senior application support analyst for a Dynamics NAV/BC system serving 300+ users across five retail and garden sites and roughly 50 tills, and I have worked on that system since 2018 — first in support, then from 2019 as its sole functional and technical owner.

The experience behind this site is specific rather than general. I was functional lead on a NAV 2009 to NAV 2018 migration: fit-gap analysis, configuration mapping, data migration design, post-migration validation and reconciliation, UAT lead and cutover support across finance and retail. I am currently the internal functional SME for the NAV to Business Central transition — scoping, fit-gap against standard BC, partner engagement and roadmap. I run LS Central across five stores and Continia Document Capture for AP automation, which is why those two add-ons have their own delta sections here and other ISVs do not: I only write about what I have actually configured and supported.

I hold six Microsoft certifications and have around seven years in ERP. I am not a partner, not a reseller, and I earn nothing from this site.

Why does this site exist?

Because the question "what changes if we move from NAV 2016 to BC 28?" has no good answer anywhere. Microsoft publishes release plans wave by wave, which is accurate but means reading fifteen of them and diffing in your head. Partners publish migration content, but it is written to win the engagement. This site does the diff once, grades each change by how much it will actually disrupt a live system, and says where the trade-offs are honest rather than only where the wins are.

How is it sourced?

What it is not

It is not a substitute for a scoping exercise with a partner, it does not price anything, and it does not know your customisations. It tells you what changed in the product. What that costs you depends on what you built on top of it.
